Still Called

Have you ever felt like you blew it so badly there’s no coming back?
That’s exactly where Peter is in John 21.
After boldly declaring he would never deny Jesus, Peter did the unthinkable—he denied Him three times. The weight of that failure didn’t just sting… it sent him backward. Back to what was familiar. Back to fishing. Back to the life he knew before Jesus ever said, “Follow Me.”
And yet, in John 21, we find Jesus on the shore… waiting.
He doesn’t show up with condemnation. He doesn’t rehearse Peter’s failure. Instead, He calls out to him again. He prepares breakfast. He creates a moment. And then He asks Peter three simple, piercing questions: “Do you love Me?”
Each question isn’t about shame—it’s about restoration.
Where Peter failed publicly, Jesus restores him personally.
Where Peter denied Him three times, Jesus gives him three chances to reaffirm his love.
And then comes the calling again: “Feed My sheep.”
Don’t miss this—Peter’s failure didn’t disqualify him. It became the very place where grace met him. And that same truth applies to us.
We all have moments we wish we could undo. Words we regret. Decisions that haunt us. Seasons where we drift back to old habits, old mindsets, or old ways of living. But Jesus doesn’t stand at a distance shaking His head. He meets us right there—in the middle of our mess—and calls us again.
Failure is not final when Jesus is involved.
He still calls.
He still restores.
He still has a purpose for your life.
So if you feel like you’ve gone too far, messed up too much, or drifted too long—hear this clearly: Jesus is still on the shore, calling your name.
Come back. Sit with Him. Let Him restore what’s been broken.
And then… follow Him again.
We’d love for you to join us this Sunday at New Hope Baptist Church in Tunnel Hill. Worship begins at 11am, and there’s a place here for you—no matter your past, no matter your story.
