Storm-Proof Faith: Building on What Lasts

Standing in the storm

When life’s storms start pounding, do you ever wonder if what you’re standing on is strong enough to last? Ever heard Jesus’ story about the man who built his house on the rock? He says there were two builders—one wise, one foolish. The wise guy built on a solid foundation—the rock. The foolish guy? He built his house on shifting sand. When storms blew in, floods rose, and the wind howled, only the house with a rock-solid foundation held strong. The other came crashing down.

Jesus wasn’t really giving a lesson in construction. He was showing us that what we build our lives on matters. Life will send storms our way—unexpected problems, doubts, grief, struggles of all kinds. If everything we trust is as temporary as sand, it won’t hold up when things get rough. But when we hear Jesus’ words and actually live them out—leaning into faith, loving one another, choosing hope even in chaos—we’re like the wise builder. We find our lives anchored to the Rock that never moves, no matter what hits us.

So, how’s your foundation looking these days? If you’re feeling shaky, or just need some encouragement, come build with us. We’d love to welcome you to New Hope Tunnel Hill for worship on Sundays at 11 am. Bring your family, bring a friend. There’s a place for you here—and it’s built on something strong. See you soon!
