Have you ever thought that bigger is always better? More people, more money, more resources, more influence? We tend to measure success by numbers, don't we?

But God doesn't always see things the way we do.

In Judges 7, Gideon was preparing to face the mighty Midianite army with 32,000 soldiers. Now, that might sound like a pretty good-sized army, but God told Gideon he had too many men!

Too many? Really, Lord?

God knew that if Israel won the battle with such a large army, they might take the credit for themselves instead of recognizing what He had done.

So God told Gideon to let anyone who was afraid go home. And 22,000 men left! That brought his army down to 10,000.

But God wasn't finished. He reduced the army again until only 300 men remained!

Imagine being Gideon and watching your army shrink from 32,000 to 300 while the enemy was still out there waiting!

Here's what strikes me about this story: God wasn't looking for impressive numbers. He was teaching His people to depend on Him.

And I think there's a lesson here for us as individuals and as a church.

Sometimes we get so caught up in counting how many people show up, how much money comes in, or how much we're accomplishing that we forget what matters most.

God isn't impressed by numbers the way we are. He's concerned about what's happening in our hearts.

Are we being faithful? Are we genuinely loving people? Are we serving with the right motives? Are we trusting Him, or are we depending on our own strength?

God is more interested in honesty in our hearts than a head count!

Now, there's nothing wrong with wanting to reach more people or see a church grow. Every person matters to God! But numbers alone don't tell the whole story of what God is doing.

Sometimes God does His greatest work through a small group of ordinary people who simply trust Him enough to obey.

Gideon learned that it's not about how many people you have standing with you. It's about the God who stands with you!

So whether you're serving in a large church, a small church, or simply trying to make a difference in your family, don't measure your faithfulness by the numbers.

Keep your heart right. Keep your motives pure. Keep loving people. And keep trusting God with the results.

After all, God accomplished something extraordinary with just 300 men!

❤️ We'd love for you and your family to join us at New Hope Baptist Church in Tunnel Hill this Sunday at 11:00 AM! We're not interested in you being just another number. You're a person who matters to God, and you matter to us. Come worship with us and experience the encouragement of God's Word!
